History
How It Started
As a third-generation farmer, Steve Herrington grew up around farming. His grandfather started in the 1920s, followed by Steve’s dad, Stan Herrington, who had been running the family farm since 1962. Steve was raised on helping out. He attended the University of Illinois to study Agriculture. In 1997, he graduated with a bachelor’s degree and planned to help run the farm with his dad.
Call Of The Road
However, shortly after graduation, Steve’s career changed lanes. He made the decision to buy a semi-truck and begin hauling grain locally as Herrington Farms. It was not long after that, he received a call requesting his services for a different type of freight. Eventually, Steve was hauling any freight he could book. Until one day, a neighbor introduced him to a new connection.
Window Of Opportunity
This birthed the relationship between Herrington and Simonton Windows. With this window plant being based out of Paris, IL, there was regular freight coming right out of his hometown. Due to the increase in freight volume, Steve was able to hire drivers and add more trucks to his fleet. He met his wife, Lori, in 2001, and in 2003 she began running the office so Steve could put his focus into other aspects of the business. This allowed Herrington to develop a more diverse customer base.
Paving The Future
In 2008, the company changed names to Herrington Transportation and became incorporated. Herrington grew rapidly in that year due to Simonton eliminating their company trucks. The fleet grew from 8 trucks to 16 trucks. Customers continued to contract the company to move their freight enabling Herrington Transportation to become what it is today operating over 60 trucks company wide.
